As I started to lose interest in the world series, I looked to open a bottle of wine to have with my baseball pizza. Soon the TV was changed to watch Gone Withe The Wind and I opened a bottle of 1999 Robert Mondavi Carneros District Merlot. What a disappointment! Granted the cooler gowing region of Carneros has yielded some great California merlot, but there was something about this wine that was simply unappealing to my palate. The nose was vegetal with green bellpepper, green olive and barely a hint of eucalyptus. On the palate the mouth feel was OK, but the vegetal flavors were a turn off. And they want $40 a bottle. 84 points.
